We are pleased to announce that Clear Channel has acquired the music service from Boyle Software’s long-time client Thumbplay. Here is the official press release.
Thumbplay’s state-of-the-art, cloud-based music technologies will be used to bolster Clear Channel Radio’s online delivery service: iHeartRadio.
Clear Channel Radio is the nation’s leading radio company with 850 stations in 150 markets. The acquisition of Thumbplay shows the company’s aggressive commitment to playing a leading role in the exponential growth of digital delivery platforms.
John Hogan, President and CEO of Clear Channel Radio, said, “Because the entire digital radio space is still in its infancy, with only 3% of total radio listening hours, we think a new, dramatically enhanced version of iHeartRadio will build on our position as the leaders in digital radio, offering an unparalleled combination of features and reach — to our listeners, advertisers, artists, music labels, and other partners – not available anywhere else.”
Over the coming months, Clear Channel will incorporate Thumbplay’s custom “radio station” service into its iHeartRadio, the digital platform for Clear Channel Radio stations nationwide, including such mega-stations as Z100 in New York and KIIS-FM in Los Angeles.
The technology, like iHeartRadio itself, works on PCs and Macs, as well as smartphones, including Android, iPhone and BlackBerry devices. In addition, iHeartRadio will be incorporated into Toyota vehicles as well as other automotive platforms.
Boyle Software offers Thumbplay and Clear Channel a hearty congratulations! We have been helping Thumbplay with their technologies since they started over five years ago; and we look forward to continued involvement with Clear Channel and iHeartRadio in the future.
Technologies for this account include XHTML, XML, SOAP, Java/J2EE, JSP, struts, MySQL, Linux, Ant, Eclipse, CVS and others.
