We've been recycling for years. Uwe's been composting the office organic waste for as long as he's had a garden. And now as of January 2008 Boyle Software is also officially carbon neutral.
Mike has the office using energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs and environmentally friendly hand soaps. We installed timers on our a/c units and programmed them to have moderate temperature settings for off hours, nights and weekends. The cleaning company uses only non-toxic and environmentally safe products.
We finally sat down and calculated our carbon footprint in late 2007, including employee commutes, office energy consumption, heating oil and so forth. Once we understood our footprint, we contracted with TerraPass to balance our emissions. Our money goes towards planting more trees and other clean energy and efficiency projects such as wind farms.
We even signed up with ConEdson's environmentally friendly energy alternatives: GREEN Power and WIND Power. GREEN Power and WIND Power electricity is generated from wind farms in the Northeast and run-of-the-river hydro facilities right here in New York State. GREEN Power is a mixture of 35% wind power and 65% small, run-of-the-river hydropower, and WIND Power is 100% wind. These renewable energy sources can be used to produce electricity with fewer environmental impacts and thus reduce pollution. ConEdison's GREEN Power and WIND Power are Green-e certified for emission-free renewable electricity and a clean energy future here in New York.
